According to Fairtrade standards, fruit juices and teas can be produced in terms of balancing volumes / indirect traceability as a development policy tool to combat poverty (so-called “mass balancing”). In most cases this is inevitable, because the product content has to be mixed with other content during processing. To allow small farmers and workers in the growing countries to participate in the FAIRTRADE system, mass balancing in fruit juices is a necessity in development policy. As a result, it is possible to help improve the living and working conditions of workers and it significantly promotes environmental protection.
