Precious nature for a precious life
The name Pfanner stands for a family, a company, a brand, and a philosophy: To give our utmost to produce high-quality products using the gifts of nature. The people, their needs and in our case taste, enjoyment, health and refreshment are at the centre of this philosophy. This means that at every level of the production process we apply the highest quality standards, which we ensure through constant monitoring and controls. We take great care when selecting, processing and bottling our fruits. We believe that innovation, development and continuous improvement are a reflection of a living brand. And this has stood the test of time: Over the course of more than 160 years, Pfanner has gained the trust of millions of consumers.
Hermann Pfanner Getränke GmbH was founded in 1856 and is still fully family owned. The company has 850 employees throughout Europe. Since 1998 the company turnover has tripled, mostly as a result of a strong export sales. Today Pfanner has production sites in Enns (AT), Lauterach (AT), Policoro (IT), Hamburg (DE) as well as Bar (UA) and an export share of 80%. Only 20% of the produced goods remain in the country of manufacture.
Sustainability & social responsibility
As early as 2001, Pfanner entered into a partnership with the FAIRTRADE association, which has been successfully developed ever since. With its high-quality products, the family business wants to make consumers aware of fair trade. FAIRTRADE helps small farmers and families of pickers to sustainably improve their lives in the countries of the south. Today, Pfanner is the strongest partner of FAIRTRADE when it comes to fairly traded fruit juices, not just in Austria, but worldwide – with regard to sales as well as depth of product range. Pfanner received the FAIRTRADE award in 2012 for its commitment to social responsibility.
In addition to providing refreshment and the best possible taste, Pfanner places a great deal of importance on sustainability. That’s why most of Pfanner’s iced tea range is Rainforest Alliance certified. Products bearing this seal of approval contain 100% tea from Rainforest Alliance certified farms. The certification helps to protect the environment and sustainably secure people’s livelihoods. This makes it possible for us at Pfanner to prove that our teas are produced responsibly, taking into account environmental standards.
Pfanner has been an organic certified producer for many years and all its organic products carry the respective quality label. This is tested by Austria BIO Garantie (ABG), an association that ensures the authenticity of organic products. Regular inspections ensure that the guidelines are adhered to by everyone, from the producer to the consumer. The organic label guarantees that the vegetables and fruit are naturally farmed. Organic farming is non-genetically modified and uses no synthetic pesticides or mineral nitrogen fertilisers. Careful pressing and gentle heating without the addition of sugar, preservatives or other additives means that the natural character of the juice is retained.
We are responsible in our dealings with nature, and we make sure that our products and their production comply with the requirements of sustainable development. For this reason, we never use any animal parts in the manufacture of Pfanner products. This means that our juices are not clarified using gelatine, which to a large part consists of tissue from various animals. All Pfanner products are vegan in this sense and carry the vegan quality label. The V-label is designed to create transparency and clarity when it comes to our wide range of high-quality fruit juices and tea beverages. Some of Pfanner's drinks are not labelled as vegan, because they contain honey or whey, for example, such as “Pfanner Winter Tea”, "Pfanner Organic Breakfast Drink” and "Pfanner Organic Carrot Juice”.
Climate Group – our business is eco-friendly
Pfanner is aware of the ecological impact of its business activities and takes this responsibility for the environment seriously. The traditional company continuously works on improving its processes and procedures in order to further reduce its environmental impact, and it does so more than is required by law. To this end, Pfanner uses external energy audits and has implemented an internal energy management system. Pfanner also has its own water well and heats its office building using waste heat from its own production processes. As the latest energy efficiency measure, two photovoltaic plants were set up at the two production sites in Lauterach and Enns. The plants support the EU-wide target of improving energy efficiency by 20% by the year 2020. Pfanner is also a member of the LEEN information platform (learning energy efficiency networks) and the sustainability agenda, with the aim of using 20% renewable energy by 2020 and to produce 20% less CO2 emissions.
Sustainable soft packaging
In harmony with the environment: Wood is the most important part of the recyclable drinks carton. It is a naturally renewable raw material and as such an important sustainability factor of the packaging. All the Pfanner carton packagings therefore carry the FSC label, which guarantees that the packaging comes from sustainable forest management and is a renewable resource: The FSC system safeguards the use of forests in accordance with economic, social and environmental needs of today’s and future generations. The carton packaging is light and oxygen-proof, easy to pour and non-drip and has a variety of print and design options, making it a special packaging solution for a new generation! The use of renewable resources, the reduction of CO2 emissions, low energy and drinking water consumption during manufacture, recyclability as well as transport and logistics efficiency all aim to protect the environment.
Cans are easy to handle in every aspect: They are easy to transport, easy to open, and easy to cool. As a single-serve packaging as part of a multi-pack, they are an unmatched convenience pack when it comes to contract bottling! The can’s cost and volume efficiency for production, storage and logistics means that it delivers great advantages for drinks manufacturers: It is fully light and gas-proof, thus guaranteeing the quality of the content as well as a long shelf life. Due to the considerable reduction in material, today’s cans weigh only a quarter of their predecessor in the 1950s. Their walls are thinner than human hair and the recycling rate around the world continues to increase, which is kind to the environment and means that natural resources are reused many times. Cans also bring many advantages for retailers: As a mini advertising column combined with glossy decorations it offers endless design possibilities and plenty of potential for the future. It saves retailers handling costs as it takes up little space on the shelves. If consumers correctly recycle the aluminium cans, they can be reused an infinite number of times.
Sustainable glass bottles
Glass bottles are airtight, neutral and retain their shape: A multi-talent, whether disposable or reused. And unlike PET bottles, the resources for glass are not limited. Because as long as there is sand in the desert, glass bottles can be made from silicon. Glass as a recyclable multi-talented material preserves the purity of the content like no other packaging material! It is airtight inside and outside and it does not allow any exchange between content and packaging, and therefore protects all kinds of food. Glass does not allow any chemical exchange processes to take place, such as moisture absorption or loss of CO2, which means that if properly stored the original quality of the content is retained even after a long period of storage!
Sustainable PET bottles
Handy, light, unbreakable! Their convenient handling, light weight, resealability and unbreakability make PET bottles a popular alternative to the glass bottle. What’s more, their low weight means low energy consumption during production and much larger volumes can be transported than is the case for glass bottles, which in turn protects the environment. Our PET bottles are free from plasticisers, which is why you can drink out of these convenient 0.5, 1.0 and 1,5l plastic bottles. If consumers correctly dispose () the PET bottle, it can be properly recycled and reused an infinite number of times. Help to ensure that PET bottles no longer end up in the sea to save valuable raw materials.
