Want to learn more about the world of Pfanner? Here you’ll find answers to interesting questions about our juices, teas and more – explained clearly, concisely and informatively!
How is fruit juice made?
From harvest straight to the bottle: to ensure maximum freshness, we usually process our fruit directly in the country where it is grown. After washing and chopping, the fruit is gently pressed to extract the juice. This gives us our naturally cloudy juices, or clear juices once filtered.
Depending on the variety, the juice is either bottled as NFC juice or temporarily reduced to concentrate to make transportation more efficient, before water is added again later. Finally, the juice is briefly heated (pasteurised) to preserve it without compromising its natural flavour.
What is the difference between 100% juice, nectar and a fruit juice drink?
The main difference lies in the fruit content and recipe – depending on how each fruit tastes best:
- 100% fruit juice: Pure fruity goodness – with no added sugar or colourings. Whether it’s NFC juice (bottled directly) or juice from concentrate (carefully reconstituted), only liquid fruit goes into the pack. Discover our fruit juice range here
- Fruit nectar: Some fruits, such as bananas or sour cherries, are too thick or too tart to drink on their own. Adding water and a little sugar turns them into a delicious, drinkable nectar. The fruit content is set by law and ranges from 25% to 50%, depending on the fruit. Discover our fruit juice range here
- Fruit juice drinks & spritzers: Ideal thirst-quenchers! Here, it’s all about refreshment and easy drinking. A fruit juice drink has a lower fruit content, while a spritzer is the perfect blend of high-quality juice (usually 50%) and sparkling mineral water. Discover our sparkling and Refresh+Vita ranges here
What is NFC juice?
NFC juice is nature in its purest form: the fruit is gently pressed immediately after harvesting. Unlike juice from concentrate, no water is removed. After pressing, the juice is simply filtered, briefly heated and bottled directly. The result is a natural taste with the full flavour of the fruit.
Tip: Try our classic Apple or Orange – pure fruit goodness with no additives! Discover our fruit juice range here
How many apples go into 1 litre of Pfanner apple juice?
Every litre of our 100% apple juice is packed with the goodness of nature: we use around 1.5 kg of freshly harvested, juicy apples to make it. This creates the perfectly balanced Pfanner taste, combining natural sweetness with a delicate acidity. Discover our NFC Apple Juice here!!
What does “fruit juice from concentrate” mean?
With this method, water is removed from freshly pressed juice under vacuum in the country where the fruit is grown. This saves space and reduces environmental impact: by reducing the volume to one-sixth, we avoid unnecessarily transporting water over long distances, for example from Brazil or Thailand.
At Pfanner, the concentrate is recombined with pure water and the fruit’s own natural aroma. This allows us to maintain consistently high quality throughout the year, preserve the vitamins and reduce the environmental impact – without compromising on taste.

How are juices preserved?
We use the gentle process of pasteurisation, heating the juice to around 95°C for just a few seconds. This is enough to stop microorganisms while helping to preserve the vitamins and full flavour.
Our aseptic filling process and packaging, which protects the juice from light and oxygen, also ensure that it stays fresh and safe for a long time without the need for preservatives. So you can enjoy the pure taste of nature!

Which vitamins are found in different fruits?
Vitamins are essential for a strong body and an alert mind. As our bodies cannot produce most vitamins themselves, fruit juices are an ideal natural source.
- Vitamin C (the immune booster): Helps support the immune system and connective tissue. Particularly abundant in oranges, red oranges, strawberries and blackcurrants. Just one glass of Pfanner 100% Orange provides your daily requirement!
- Vitamin A / Beta-carotene (for your eyes): Supports healthy vision and skin renewal. Found particularly in apricots, mangoes and tomatoes.
- B vitamins & folic acid (for the nervous system): Support metabolism and concentration. Found in bananas, apples and pears.
- Vitamin E (cell protection): Supports cell renewal. Found in peaches and pineapples.
Whether it’s apple, mango or grapefruit, every fruit brings its own nutritional benefits. Enjoy the variety and give yourself a natural vitamin boost!
Which minerals are found in different fruits?
Minerals are essential building blocks for the body: they help regulate metabolism, support healthy bones and muscles and contribute to normal nerve function. As our bodies cannot produce them themselves, fruit juices are a natural and convenient source.
- Potassium & sodium (fluid balance): Help regulate the body’s fluid balance and support muscle function. Especially important after sweating!
- Magnesium (muscles & nerves): Helps muscles relax and supports the nervous system.
- Calcium & phosphorus (bones): Important minerals for healthy teeth and bones.
- Iron (blood formation): Supports the transport of oxygen around the body.
Tip for athletes: Fruit juices make ideal “sports drinks”. When mixed with sparkling water as a spritzer, they can often have an isotonic effect. This means the concentration of minerals is similar to that of our blood, allowing the body to absorb the fluid particularly quickly and replenish its energy reserves.
Which antioxidants are found in different fruits?
Antioxidants are your cells’ natural “bodyguards”. They neutralise free radicals – harmful substances generated by factors such as stress, sunlight and environmental pollution. In this way, they help your body stay healthy and full of vitality.
Particularly rich sources of these valuable protective compounds include:
- Berries: Cranberries and blackcurrants are packed with antioxidants.
- Apples: Contain valuable naturally occurring plant compounds.
- Tea: Freshly brewed green and black tea provide valuable flavonoids.
So, with every glass of Pfanner juice or tea, you’re giving your body a natural dose of cell protection – simple and delicious!

How are our apples made into apple juice?
The mild climate and combination of warm days and cool nights give our apples their perfectly balanced sweet and tart flavour. We use around 1.5 kg of these freshly harvested apples to produce one litre of 100% apple juice at our Austrian plants in Lauterach and Enns – for quality straight from the region!
- Growth: Pollination by bees in spring, a delicate flowering phase and ideal ripening conditions thanks to warm days and cool nights.
- Harvest: In autumn, the ripe apples are picked by hand and brought to the Pfanner plants.
- Processing: Washing, crushing and pressing the fruit pulp; the naturally cloudy juice is filtered if required – without the use of gelatine.
- Gentle preservation: The juice is briefly pasteurised before being stored and bottled.
How is our Pure Tea White Tea made?
The carefully selected leaves for our unsweetened Pure Tea White Tea come from Southeast Asia. Under ideal climatic conditions, only the two youngest leaves and the leaf bud are picked by hand, as these contain the most delicate flavour.
After harvesting, the tea leaves are spread out on long mesh conveyors and withered using warm air, making them soft and pliable.
To prevent fermentation and preserve the valuable ingredients and characteristically tart flavour, the leaves are gently steamed, rolled and dried.
Once they arrive in Austria, the tea is freshly brewed and refined in keeping with Pfanner tradition. The result: Pure refreshment with an invigorating effect – with no sugar or sweeteners! Discover our Pure Tea range here
How does Pfanner make use of the whole fruit – from tree to bottle?
Pfanner takes a holistic approach to fruit processing from the very first step: fruit is harvested at the optimum stage of ripeness on selected plantations, then washed and freshly pressed. Depending on the product, the juice is made into NFC juice, 100% juice, nectar or fruit juice drinks before being gently filled.
Nothing goes to waste: the remaining fruit pulp, known as pomace, is put to further use, for example as animal feed or in biogas production. This creates a sustainable cycle in which every part of the fruit is put to good use.
The result: the highest quality, full fruit flavour and responsible use of natural resources.
